Autocar eats their words.
A spectacular feature by Autocar’s Jesse Crosse, when he came to my house and had a go behind the wheel of the Enfield. I’m not saying I started this project after reading this quote in Autocar’s 1976 issue, but it helped charge my enthusiasm.

THE WORLD’S QUICKEST STREET LEGAL EV IS…………….2.84 metres long, yellow and often mistaken for a Reliant Kitten. I can barely believe it myself, but the Flux Capacitor Enfield 8000 is the world’s quickest (and possibly fastest) electric car with an MoT and tax.
As quick as an £800,000 Porsche 918 Spyder.
You can see from Julian Hunt’s pics below that the Enfield is squatting down much harder on launch, for two reasons: Firstly we’re putting more power through the car – currently the control system’s maximum capability of 2000 amps, but also there’s additional weight over the back axle (about 45-50kg) with the new Hyperdrive battery pack.

My computer is a bit ill, so we’re still working on editing the onboard footage of my world record runs. They should be out next week. I write this still shaking my head in disbelief that the Enfield can run a 9 sec quarter mile without ANY aerodynamic alteration. No wings, lips, gills added to the original design. Thanks once again to everyone with a sticker on the side of my car. All of you have been instrumental in the Flux Capacitor Enfield getting this far and performing this strongly. I have had a number of people contact me asking whether I really own this car, and whether I genuinely have spent my own money on it. Yes, and yes. Ask Mrs Smith if you don’t believe me.

Flux Capacitor now faster than a McLaren 650S
I first ran the Enfield back in March while filming a new forthcoming BBC Worldwide TV series called Motorheads. The weather was cold (sub 10 degrees) at Santa Pod and we were carrying a passenger in the shape of my co-presenter Tom Wookie Ford. It ran consistent early 11s, – not bad given the weather and track conditions. You may see it on telly somewhere in the autumn.
WORLD’S QUICKEST STREET EV IN 2016?
The Enfield 8000 Flux Capacitor rolled into 2016 having reached a 10 second quarter mile as a street car that’s totally useable for average journeys. From taking my daughter to school in it to completing the mandatory 26-mile street cruise around Northamptonshire to qualify for the Street Eliminator drag race category (where if you break down, you’re out of the event), the Enfield has exceeded all expectation

I’m all about the baseline
The Enfield 8000 is now up to full fighting kerb weight. The light is glinting at the end of the tunnel. Baseline time, which basically means setting up the car to a decent standard ready for some shakedowns.
